I'm going to sound like the biggest bitch ever but here it goes: I think this book has a great premise and exceptional vibe, but I sort of wish it was in the hands of a more skilled writer. Rebecca Ross is... fine? But my library hold for The Everlasting just came in and I can't stop thinking about what an Alix E. Harrow, or a V.E. Schwab, or a Laini Taylor would do for a book like this.

This is going to sound crazy, but I think this pig is Joseph Stalin??? However, given his use of police force, he could (if this wasn't published in the 40s) be Boris Yeltsin, who OPENED FIRE ON A DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED PARLIMENT IN 1993!!!

Thought 1: The main character's name is Axel, so I picture him as Axel from KAJ.

Thought 2: I cannot read more than ten pages of this book without falling asleep... unclear if this is the book's fault or if I just have a bad sleep schedule.
