Mateo and Rufus go to Lidia's house and Mateo visits kind of awkwardly. Lidia realizes that Mateo is a decker but can't call him since he blocked her in order to live his life. Rufus then posts an instagram post to see if his friends can contact or find him. They go on the train again but the lights go off, Mateo get's scared but feels okay with Rufus being there, and eventually falls asleep and Rufus takes a photo.

Mateo and Rufus message on the deathfriend app i forgot the name ngl. Mateo is too nervous to leave his room and Rufus is determined to make him come outside with him. They message eachother for a bit and then videocall, Rufus refers to a photo Mateo posted with a Luigi hat. He says he'll be the mario to his luigi. They're both glad they have someone to talk to.

Mateo tries to talk with people on the site, but they’re all weirdos. Two ask for a one night stand, one is interested in smoking pot, and another one spammed gore videos. So now, Mateo gave up on that. On the other hand Rufus and his family held a death funeral. Where they all said how they feel about him. But then the police showed up.

Mateo gets an app for making friends, and he makes an account. He decides that he’ll decide to spend his last day with a friend. Rufus tries to hang out with his friends and family, awkwardly playing games. Until his ex appears with the boy he beat up.

Rufus is outside the church. He calls his ex Aimee, he tells her that it is his last day. She tells him to stay in the church and not get hurt. But Rufus just goes to his foster home with his friends. We go back to Mateo, he isn’t really doing much except cleaning the house. He chooses what phrase to go on his gravestone. The writing is still pretty bad to me, this update is in the same writing style.

We learn about someone called Rufus. He was beating a kid to death when he got the news. His family died in a car accident and he's the only one left. He is in a foster home with Tagoe and Malcolm, two boys he's became friends with. He laments as well about his inevitable death. He's talking about maybe talking to his ex. This writing is still sort of bad with characterizing character's speech.

Mateo has just learned that today is his last day alive. He laments a lot about how many failed opportunities he had to have a good life. He thinks about how he has no friends or family or much in general to enjoy, he's lived a pretty lonely life. Honestly so far I'm not really a fan of this style of writing, it feels very juvenile.

The Supreme Court finally bans putting juveniles in life sentences or deathrow, and this is a major win. Stevenson is overloaded with many rebuttal cases bc of this but many people are being freed. Walter eventually dies. It is sad that he ended up with trauma induced dementia and spent his last few years in confusing, but Stevenson talks about how monumental his case was. Walter felt like a brother to him.

Stevenson tries to represent a man on death row who is intellectually disabled and is being wrongly accused of murder. His execution is 30 days from them and they try hard to make a case. Stevenson continuously tries to make appeals to the courts and it goes all the way to supreme court. Yet no court considers his clients difficulties at all. He is executed. Stevenson has a hard time facing it and himself.

Stevenson is helping out an inmate called Joe Sullivan, who was sentenced to life in prison at just 13 years old. He is now around 30 and extremely mentally ill from the trauma of being imprisoned and spending his life there. Stevenson is trying to advocate for him and all other juveniles who were sentenced to life at a young age. We also learn that Walter has gotten advanced dementia which was trauma induced.

Stevenson talks about how much mother in poverty struggle in the justice system. It is really easy to accuse them of having "unsafe environments" for children when it's all due to poverty. Many struggle with addiction too because of their circumstances, yet rather than receive proper help they're jailed for having drugs in their system. People view stillbirths as infanticide & mothers are given the life sentence.

Grimmer and Lunge find out that an old couple in the hotel is actually part of the people handing out guns. One of the men who is in a wheelchair seemed to have extremely muddy shoes as if he was walking around a lot outside which gave it away. Nina and Tenma are trying to track down Johan, while Johan tries to track down Franz. It seems that this will be the final conflict that is finished in the next volume.

All the surviving main characters independently end up in the same town, where the children's book author is. He was the start of everything, so Johan has a plan to kill himself, the book author, the entire town, and every memory of everything. Town's people become hostile with people on Johan's side conveniently handing out guns, even to kids. We find out that the owner of a hotel who is extremely nice is the author

Nina meets up with Johan again, and Johan talks about what has happened to him. Talking about their traumatic childhood makes Nina distressed, as she tries to tell him that since they're twins, she's always confused both of them. In reality, everything that Johan claimed to have happened to him actually happened to her. Her memory of herself was actually Johan. But it doesn't matter, his plan is already in action.

After witnessing many things, the lady knew Johan was behind everything and asked a bunch of questions to him. Johan doesn't care at all and the lady is shot and killed. Tenma visits a small hospital that cares for asian people since in this town many immigrants are deported if they go to an actual hospital. The only doctor there is an unlicensed 17 yr. Tenma helps out and asks her for some information.

Detective Lunge lures in Tenma with a copycat kill, and now he found him. Tenma tries to escape until we see that Lunge pulls out a gun. But then, the actual killer stabs Lunge. Lunge originally ignored the killer because he didn't care and wanted to focus only on Tenma. Yet the killer is actually emotional and didn't feel this was right, which led to him stabbing him.

Katniss and Peeta have one last interview, where Katniss has to pretend more to be in love with Peeta. After the interview they are on the train heading home, where Haymitch mentions cameras. This makes Peeta confused and we see that the entire time, he has not been faking a single thing. He then realizes Katniss has been faking everything and now seems expressionless. They step out of the station when the book ends.

Once lifted into the aircraft, Peeta is immediately worked on by doctors while Katniss screams his name. After a few weeks, she's been stuck in a hospital and she saw that her body has been worked on a lot to look extremely clean and like she was never in the games to begin with. She realizes bc of threatening to die, the capitol is really mad. To be safe she has to be in love with Peeta still to look convincing.

When it's just Katniss, Peeta, and Cato left, the gamemakers choose to release wild mutated wolfdogs. These dogs end up tearing up Cato to a point where he is unrecognizable but not dead yet. When Katniss finishes him off, it's announced that there will still only be one winner. Peeta and Katniss decide to both die via poisonous berries, but last second the gamemaker shouts to them, saying that they both won.

Katniss has found Peeta and for a while his leg was badly injured, leaving him unable to walk. Peeta acted as if he was in love and Katniss realized they still need to pretend to be a couple in order to be supported by people outside the games. After Rue died too Katniss had a resolve to win the games with Peeta. Eventually Peeta's leg was able to get healed and they now continue to act in love, it can even feel real

A lot has happened in the games, and at some point Katniss was being staked out while she was on top of a tree, but she cut down a beehive and extremely deadly wasps drove the enemies away. She was finally able to get her hands on a bow and arrows too. Katniss decided to team up with Rue because she likes her and because Rue is really smart with plants and she's really fast.

Bryan Stevenson is has a nonprofit where him and others try to represent prisoners on death row. He talks about multiple cases where the court chooses to execute people despite there being many reasons for them not to do it. It seems as if the justice system at that time cared about executing people only and not about whether or not they actually deserved it. One man was intellectually disabled and still executed.

All the tributes are going to be interviewed and Katniss has a lot to work on. She's pretty quiet and seems standoffish and also doesn't know manners. When it comes to the actual interview she does know how to be polite but it isn't exceptional. But when it's Peeta's turn he ends up lying and saying he has a crush on Katniss. The entire audience is now fans of them and they're marketed as star crossed lovers.

Katniss is talking about the quarters she lives in, they're extremely big and extravagant. She ate dinner with Peeta and some others when one of the servants suddenly looks familiar. But the thing is that servant is known as a Vox, traitors with their tongue cut out. Katniss realizes she recognized her form a time when she saw her running away but she then got caught. Before the vox got caught she saw katniss too.

Katniss and Peeta talk with Haymitch, the last person to have won in district 12. Haymitch tells them to not refuse anything the future stylists want to do. They arrive at the capital and immediately work on making Katniss more "refined" and fixing her up. They decide to make her and Peeta wear matching outfits that have synthetic fire in order to catch the audience's attention.
