This is a long book and it is very slow going for me. The theme of Bree’s grief and her journey through is probably the best part of the book. The magical system was very complicated and I feel like the concept of Root was thrown is quickly to remind the reader that there is another perspective of the magical realm. Overall I think the author was trying to say too many things at once.

This book enlightened me on Indian/Native culture. I liked the character introductions in the beginning of the book as well as how their stories became woven together in this short, but devastating story.

I’ll have to agree with several of the other reviews. This book was just all right. There were hints of the vampire diaries and even divergent, but it never reached the level of perfection those did. I don’t feel like I got enough from the main male characters. Not sure I’ll be reading the sequel.

This story, focuses on the lives of four friends: Eileen, Alice, Simon and Felix. I enjoyed the back-and-forth between Eileen and Alice through their correspondence. The rambling thoughts and observations about the world were at times very thought-provoking. Other times this book felt very dense and it took a long time to finish. Some of it was hard to connect with since I am not familiar with the UK.

Yay my first book of 2026! I really enjoyed the short chapters and the style of this book. It was a beast of a book and I felt like it was more of a marathon read. Once I got to the last 150 pages I had a really hard time putting it down. So much of the story was unpredictable so even though the descriptions at times were very dense, it was fun to read, not knowing how it would end.
