I have been trying to finish for a while and so far it hasn't made a sense.

Most of the things seem far-fetched for the sake of story development and there is not a chemistry between h and H, though there are a lot of thinking about that subject. :)

And now the panic was a thing with claws.
She hadn’t the time to fetch her own shawl now. She held up Lisbeth’s shawl. “Lisbeth might be in there shivering even now. So—I—” ........

In the next chapter, after a few pages later...

And she ducked her head and, with great hope, surreptitiously sniffed her own shawl.

I've been reading it almost for week. Unfortunatelly, it is not going as I exptected. I've suspended reading and considering to get through it by skipping some parts.

Unfortunatelly, l haven't convinced that hero is charmed by his wife so easily. As of something is missing at the progress. :(

Lucy Waltham was always flirting with disaster, and therefore Jeremy had always avoided Lucy. He didn’t want to be in the vicinity when disaster inevitably struck.

Gwin searched his face for any sign that he might be bluffing. There was none. "But what about my reputation?"

"Which one? Horse thief? Or cardsharp?"

She merely gave him an arch look before turning her back and gathering up her skirts. "I’m sorry, but we're in a hurry." Cole took hold of the reins, pointedly delaying their departure. "Ma'am? There's just one more thing."
"What's that?" With his free hand, Cole reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a pair of gleaming silver handcuffs. "That horse you're stealing? It's mine."

She experienced a blissful sense of homecoming, a peace she had never known, as the tiger became her and she became the tiger. In one fragment of time she understood all the mysteries of creation, that every living being was part of every other living being, that all were part of God, bound by love, put on earth to care for one another. Nothing of any importance existed but love.

Of all the cruel tricks fate had played on him, the crudest of all was joining him to this fragile decent woman with the beautiful eyes and too-generous heart. Caring wasn't enough for her. She needed to be surrounded by real love. She needed children and a good husband—one of those big-hearted guys who marched in Labor Day parades and went to church on Sunday and would love her to distraction.

She'd also done something no one else had been able to accomplish since he was a very young child. She had shattered his rigid self-control, and maybe that was why he was beginning to hurt so much.

He remembered the pain in his frozen hands as warmth returned to them. The pain of the thaw. Was that what was happening to him? Was he feeling the pain of thawing emotions?

Alex's boots thudded on the ramp. "Stop it, Daisy, and get out here."

She swallowed hard against the constriction in her throat. "Go away."

"You're not going to survive here. Your stubbornness is only postponing the inevitable."
"You're probably right." She lost the battle to hold back her tears. They spilled over onto her cheeks.
She sniffed, but she didn't stop working

He rose from behind the booth, his expression even more ominous than usual. Before he had a chance to say a word, she reached up and pressed a gentle finger over his lips.

"Please don't spoil this moment for me, Alex. It's the first time since our wedding ceremony that I've gotten the best of you, and I want to enjoy every precious second."

She gazed into another set of pale, golden eyes so like that tiger's that she felt as if she had journeyed from one beast to another......
She found herself fearing him in a new way, one she didn't entirely understand except to know that it had a dimension that went beyond the threat of the physical. It was more elusive than that. Somehow she feared he would damage her soul.
