If I could give Elle any advice it would probably be to not worry about Noah as much as she did. She was deciding between Noah and Lee, but Noah is a player and would probably end up breaking her heart. Good friendships like the one Elle and Lee had will last so much longer than a relationship with his brother, Noah. It’s not worth throwing away a great friendship for a relationship that won’t last that long.

This book takes place in the present unlike “The Giver” or “Roll of Thunder.” So, many of the expeditions are the same ones that we abide by. For example, Elle likes her best friends brother, Noah. Today, common knowledge is your best friend’s siblings are off limits.

The genre of my book is young adult romantic comedy. It is meant for young adults and teens and it definitely has romance, as well as comedy. This book was in my suggested section so I decided to see what it was about. I think this book is similar to some of the other ones I’ve read like, “The Fault in our Stars.” So, I thought I would enjoy this one as well.

The symbolism archetype of this book is light and dark. Maddy’s illness is the dark, evil aspect. It holds her back and makes her life sad. It also makes her feel lonely and meaningless. The light in this book is Olly. He helps Maddy learn to overcome her obstacles, and tries to make her life happy and exciting. He distracts her from the struggles that come with her life threatening disease.

I can connect this book to the book, “Midnight Sun.” Both of these books are about a girl that has a rare illness that makes her deathly allergic to the sun. This means they have to stay inside for the majority of their lives. Also, in both of these books the girl falls in love with a guy that causes her to come out of her comfort zone for better or worse.

The main characters in my book are Maddy and Olly. Maddy has a disease that severely constricts her life, she can’t even go outside. Olly and Maddy fall in love which brings up some obstacles, this is the inciting incident. If they didn’t meet and fall in love, nothing would have happened. This story takes place around Maddy’s house which is in Los Angeles and the story is told in diary form from Maddy’s perspective.

This book is a character driven story. I know this because Katie is driving the story with her feelings towards Charlie. If she wasn’t so interested in Charlie, she would just stay in her house all day thinking about her disease. There was no big event and the story wasn’t driven by the location or time it happened. Therefore, I know this story is character driven.

The plot type in this book is The Quest. I know this because Kevin has fallen in love with Rhiannon and is trying to get her to love him. Each day Kevin wakes up in a new body and searches for Rhiannon even though she doesn’t know it’s him because he’s in a different body. He is used to waking up in a different body and has always told himself to not get attached to anyone. On the other hand, Rhiannon’s different.

The genres of this book are low fantasy, young adult fantasy, and a little bit of romantic fantasy. I know it is low fantasy because although Justin is in a new body everyday which is very magical, the world around him is normal. The main character is a teenager so it is very relatable with teens and young adults. It is also romantic fantasy because Justin falls in love with a new person in each of his lives.

An important event is when a Tumblr page called “About this” was leaked. It begins, “I got the idea for killing Simon while watching Dateline.” This Tumblr page is a disturbing letter about how the person writing it got the idea to kill Simon. Now, everyone is realizing that Simon dying was not an accident, but a murder. I think more investigations will occur from this and it will become even bigger of a deal.

The setting of this story is somewhere in the U.S and in present time. I know this because all the teenagers have mobile phones and they are in an American High School. At the time when Simon has his allergic reaction, the teenagers are in detention. That scene is a very important scene in the book because it determines the rest of the story.

The conflict in this story is character vs. character. Someone killed Simon and it could only have been one of the people that was in detention. The five people in detention were friends, but now they are getting suspicious. The characters are turning against each other, this is how I know the conflict is character vs. character.

The protagonist, Mia Hall, is a dynamic character. I know this because on page 21 she gets in a terrible car accident and her whole family dies. She has to change because she no longer has a family and that changes her life drastically. Also, she is now in a coma not knowing if she’s going to survive. If she does, she will have a very different perspective of life.

The purpose of this book is to inform the reader about the things that happened in the holocaust. If more people know about the terrible things that happened in the holocaust, another tragedy is less likely to happen. The topic, the holocaust, is a serious topic that is not suitable for young children. The reader of this book is someone who is interested in the holocaust and history in general.

Mary’s main character traits are sarcastic, mischievous, and careless. She doesn’t really care about school at all. She sneaks out of class to smoke, and skips class regularly. One of her weaknesses is that she is very irresponsible. This holds her back in school as well as in her relationships. Her good friends, Lillia and Kat, motivate her. If it was not for them, she probably wouldn’t even come to school.

Kat, Mary, and Lilia all have secrets. Mary has the biggest secret, she’s dead. She didn’t even know until she realized weird things were happening. The teacher didn't call on her and she never got tests back. She just sat in the back and assumed everything was normal. The only people that can see her are Kat and Lilia. Now she wonders, why am I still on earth? That makes the reader wonder what she’s going to do now.

I’m not far into my book but I can guess who the unsympathetic character is, Reeve. He broke the trust between Mary and Lellia by leaving a party with Lellia. They fall in love, while everyone is telling Lellia to stay away from Reeve. The book has shown signs that Reeve is bad, Mary says that Reeve only deserves misery from what he’s done to her. But, she doesn’t say what he did. I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough.

The perspective of my book is first person. My book also alternates characters each chapter. I know the perspective is first person because each character tells their own story. The characters also don’t know all the information about the other characters, which they would if it was third person omniscient. Another reason I know the perspective is first person is because the characters use words like “I” and “Us.”

The conflict in my book is character vs. self. Jeff is trying to cope with his attempt at suicide, he is battling his own thoughts in the attempt to become a better person. He is working with doctors and other people in the psychiatric ward but is facing many obstacles. This includes the death of one of his only friends in the hospital and coming out as gay. This is all in the midst of his recovery period.

Jeff is the protagonist and “Cat Poop”, or Jeff’s doctor, is the antagonist. Jeff’s only goal is to get out of the psychiatric ward and he doesn’t believe he needs help. But, Cat Poop won’t let him go until his 45 days are up and he is all better. Jeff jokes around in their sessions but Cat Poop is not going to let him go until he participates in the serious therapist talks. So, Jeff is going to have to get serious.

The main character is Jeff, a 15 year old boy. On New Years Eve he tried to kill himself and then woke up in the psychiatric ward. He doesn’t at all think he needs help and only wants out of the hospital. But, he’s going to have to stay even though he doesn’t want to. He has to get through all the cheesy friendship talks and communication activities until he gets to go home, which he is not thrilled about.

My book is a novel that tells a chronological story. I’ve figured this out because in the beginning, Pea is just discovering her eating disorder. Then, she goes through many different treatments and tries to get better. By the end of the book, she figures out what helps her and starts to improve. This book does not jump out of order and it does not have alternating characters. This is how I know it is chronological.

Pea’s brother is a minor character. He disappears into his room, ignoring and neglecting pea. This makes pea feel like he wouldn’t care if she was gone. When pea is having troubles with her eating disorder, the monster inside her as she describes it, he couldn’t care less. Even though he doesn’t do a lot, he must be in the book for a reason. As the story goes on I can predict that he will do something, probably bad.

The archetypal symbol in this book is the wilderness. When Tabitha escaped The Center she lived in a underground house in the wilderness. There, rules didn’t apply and everything ran wild. This was a big change from The Center where everything was very particular and strict rules were enforced. When Tabitha escaped The Center she was finally free.

In the first part of this book the tone is very expectant. Tabitha is so excited to get her new foster family. But, when she realizes that it was all a lie and they were using her for her body parts, the tone changed to tense and uncertain. Tabitha wants to save her friends that are still training at the center and she doesn’t know whats going to happen or if their mission will be successful.

Stella’s most important character traits are that she is very organized, innocent, and she likes to be in control. Her meds are very organized and she even made a app that tells her when to take her meds everyday. Also, when Will didn’t take his medication she gets very nervous and upset and makes sure he takes them. She also didn’t have a boyfriend before Will and dosn’t pay attention to boys, she is very innocent.

The writer makes me more curious about cystic fibrosis. I want to know more and more about CF because the main characters in my book are battling it. I am curious about the everyday life of people with CF. From my book I know that their day consists of taking tons of pills, doing treatments, and being studied by doctors. I don’t know how people with CF cope with being isolated from everything and still stay hopeful.
