Ok i wish i had read this book in high school b/c i was a less confrontative ava - disappearing then pretending not to be angry when my friends knew i was angry b/c i thought feeling left out was the same thing as feeling betrayed

i really like her style of writing!!!!!

I read like 10 pages at a time... still I feel really moved by this book and the life of Justice Marshall.. every few pages I'm in awe. I genuinely wonder how he had the mental capacity to deal with our legal system during the 1940s and 50s.

Like is he dead .

Noah offense I have to stop this book because I simply do not care about these characters & they bore me

Her ideas about performative solidarity are just extraordinarily salient considering what is happening in our world.. on the flip side i love to hate to love her ideas about self-delusion and the internet.. things Ive been thinking about profusely since social distancing started! I feel so incapable of extricating my "real" self from my online presence and then ta-da! this book lands in my figurative lap (ebook haha)

Why do I resent her! Why do I envy her!? I’ve never felt this way, but when someone can say that even on their worse days they are pretty!! The confidence! And the fact that it’s probably true! Ouch

I feel like the success of this book might be related to the fact that this how women want to think men think...

1/3 of the way through this book, I realized that this was a book I needed when I was about 16, rather than 20. But that allows me to love it differently, thinking of how my younger self would've appreciated the one-liners like, "At that age, I was, first and foremost, a thing to be judged, and that shifted the power in every interaction onto the other person." How powerful it would have been to read that at 16!

FIRST OF ALL, i am so mad at myself for never reading any of these books for the first 19 years of my life. I have recently been obsessed with films and books which i categorize as “yearning” and this pretty much fits the blueprint.
I LOVE IT. I had no idea.
