I am loving this so far. It excellently and accurately lays out what happens when women's ministry is either neglected or allowed umbilical freedom, when women are dominated or independent of the church. Very well balanced and Biblical.

I love it when ancient history gets pulled into the "modern time" of the story's present. Lineages, histories, old alliances, old enmities, backstory--it all lends so much more to the current storyline. And in this story, the main characters have some VERY interesting backstory. I am looking forward to learning more about the Curious Intrigue, the Pinnacle, the Congruency, and especially the Lawless.

Kesia's naivete about sexual things is hilarious, endearing, and awkward, all at the same time. Dragons follow very strict guidelines when it comes to romance, to the point where Zephryn's analytical and dispassionate comments made me think of Spock sometimes. (Not to say that Zephryn isn't capable of romance!) Very interested to see the romance develop.

Can I just say that I love the name Kesia? And Zephryn? And Shance? Seriously, Janeen Ippolito knows how to name her characters memorable and beautiful names.

I am intrigued by Kesia's shadowy background. I know she's a felon, but the exact nature of her crime is uncertain, since she herself can't remember much about it. But an incident on an airship seems to offer the hope of learning more...

Louie was a troublemaker of a particularly creative type. What really impresses me is that his older Pete saw so much potential in Louie and refused to let Louie simply be the town problem. Louie could run? Okay then, he would run on the track team. What made Pete drive his brother so mercilessly to succeed that he was willing to eclipse his own successes to do it?
