I adore Rebecca Solnit's work. I read her second book-atlas, Unfathomable City, and wondered how true it would read to a New Orlean's native. Well, if it reads as true as the NYC one does to me, an NYC-native, then I can only assume the first book-atlas about San Francisco is also phenomenal.

So far, this book is actually a well balanced and non-prescriptive account of open relationships, polyamory, and non partnered monogamy, in addition to discussing techniques for open communication, trust building, nonviolent communication, and other useful tidbits.

"We were all getting old. That much was as plain as the falling rain."

It was slightly disorienting at first, and the protagonist was more patriarchal than I can tolerate, but it's gradually pulling me in.

Unsure about the timeliness of this read; but let's see what happens!

This feels like the right thing to read at this precise moment in human history. Take me to church!

It's heating up. I like how Pinker floats between prescriptive and descriptive language. This style guide is not as authoritarian as I'm used to, which is a relief.

I have never read something so surreal before. It took me some time to get used to it, but I can now easily lose myself in the fantasy of zombie and locust people, of uncertainty, of guilt, of our illusory perception.
