I wish novelists would find a way to show depravity of character that doesn’t involve abusing animals. It’s a cheap trick to manipulate readers’ emotions. I know this is imaginary, but still...I hate it enough to consider quitting the otherwise-OK book.

I was already impressed with Penny’s writing skills, but seriously... This book is a miracle of intricate, braided plotting. So. Good.
