I have enjoyed Childhood and Youth, but I think I may have to take a pause before Dependence as I know it's going to go pear shaped

Seems remarkably easy to join the police force on Camaho? Also really struggling with time line. Join for a few years, get packed off abroad for a year, run the police station year after. A bit confused.

Wow, already heart broken after only one chapter. This is very immediate.

Ouch, on chapter 71 and Beni has gone missing. Again. I feel like it is just repeating smthe same chapters over and over again. So far in, but even so I think I may have to bail soon.

No don't do this! I was really enjoying this but, spoiler...,

I am so fed up of women in books getting accidentally pregnant. It isn't automatic! Like the world is made up of women at exactly the right point in their ovulation cycle who don't know how contraception works. I've started anticipating that any scene where characters have sex in the first section of the book will lead to a surprise pregnancy.

This is a book lovers dream!

For goodness sake, don't they know that if a woman is being sick in a novel, she is always pregnant.

Half way through and getting a bit frustrated with this. Why don't they just talk to their landlord? He just lives down the lane? Feels like a lot of intrigue built up just because they won't take the natural / easiest course of action 🤔

Getting a bit frustrated with this. A bit disappointed with how Tambudsai's character or perspective is developing, she now just seems as a bitter onlooker / narrator of the discussions going on around her.

Think I may join The Gardeners, they seem to have some sound advice "It is never too early to practice this essential precaution. Avoid anyone who is sneezing."

I think I am enjoying the plot if this, it's a real challenge for the sensory averse though. All the licking, tasting, slurping, tentacles. Ugh 🤮 making my skin crawl. I guess it's the point, but almost feel it should come with a warning 😅

Not a huge fan of detailed sex scenes anyway, especially involving teenagers. Giving strong consideration to giving up on this...

Finding the modern part of this a bit boring 😑.

So far; several false starts, a ton of similes and metaphors, a man child, father and son police station (is that likely?)... I am finding it slightly irritating. Hoping it improves as I usually love Fredrik Backman books.

He looked like he was trying to breath through his toes? What? Also, the female narrator keeps putting on a high pitched voice for the female dialogue. Why?
