Those who've read the book will know why the whole story changes like a curry after a whole line has been squeezed on it. Still good, but another dimension of flavor added.

Interesting. Really all I can say about this book without spoiling its effect. At different times it reminds me of Fear and loathing in Las Vegas, at others the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (I imagined Hand immediately as a Ford Prefect | Zaphod Beeblebrox combination) and still at other times it Reminds me of portions of Brothers Karamazof, but that may just be my memory playing tricks on me...

Probably Gladwell's best book. inspires curiosity about the topic covered, without completely satisfying that curiosity. Leaves small mysteries unsolved, so you contemplate each section long after you finish reading it. The essay on the Dog whisperer is particularly good.

Fast, humorous, and easy to understand. There is a quick laugh in every chapter and complex theories are so simply visualized.

So far this book has made me care about the people of Detroit, a city I thought to be a detriment to my home state. Many have reviewed it harshly due to the rough and lurid descriptions of corruption and ambulance chaser quality, but it has caused me to see the people of Detroit as people. I was close to tears at several points.

very interesting and enjoyable so far. I've always considered my memory poor, and at the same time been fascinated by the way the mind works. This is a journalist exploring a topic and not a self-help book.

So far, Ms. Welty's writing reminds me a lot of Wendell Berry at it's best, Falkner & Joyce (two writers I despise) at it's worst. The characters are developed solely through action and dialog, without any insight into their thought process, and so all of them seem slightly unbalanced and one dimensional. Beautiful writing, but to me beautiful writing and dialog for it's own sake is a waste of paper.

This is a very fun read so far. The writing is okay, but if you are a father, the stories will ring true. More a collection of essays than an actual cohesive work.

Fairly good so far, if a little dryer than his fictional work. Already out has helped me to see the kind of world Chesterton must have lived in with clearer eyes. His writing is timeless in a way that it is hard to place him in time, but reading stories of his parents and grandparents helps to firmly anchor him in history for me.

Joshua is finished with The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia
Beautiful book. Very neatly ended in a classic way. Please, If you choose to read this, read it with a neutral narrator in mind, who is simply exploring worldviews. It is easy to get caught up in disagreeing with what is happening, and lose sight of what there is to gain through the exploration.

beautiful, powerful and mind bending at times. There are places that sound and feel like the discourses of Plato, then shift to Tolstoy's palatial beauty, and end with Neil Gaiman's gritty hyper realism. I would not recommend this book to my younger friends though, who might not be able to separate the hypothetical world where the allegorical anthropomorphized ideologies from the ideas themselves.

I've never read another author besides Dostoyevsky who could look at ideologies from both sides and personify them so well.
