So far, Ms. Welty's writing reminds me a lot of Wendell Berry at it's best, Falkner & Joyce (two writers I despise) at it's worst. The characters are developed solely through action and dialog, without any insight into their thought process, and so all of them seem slightly unbalanced and one dimensional. Beautiful writing, but to me beautiful writing and dialog for it's own sake is a waste of paper.
