Wow. I was getting bored of this book and now I'm on chapter 9 (the chapter about race relations she references in the intro when she emphasized the need to keep the time frame in mind (circa 1945... just after the war). This chapter is great!

Oh, how I love this book!

Ugh. So much grief. Ambiguous loss is the worst.

Omg, I'm so into it. I just read the Iliad, which adds so much to my enjoyment. I was so excited when I realized Briseis was the narrator.

Her and that bicarbonate of soda! I just realized her husband isn't dead - she left him.

Wow. I am just how learning this time line....

Roosevelt died, then Germany surrendered, then Hitler killed himself.... AND THE BOMB WAS JUST BEING TESTED.

Kind of cute so far. She's recently widowed and her husband's lover calls to tell her about the affair that she didn't want to know about.... basically, she's alone now.

She is worried she'll die and no one will notice until she smells. And she's a clean freak who is obsessed with sodium bicarbonate. So she goes out to get a job and exist in the world.

I really love this book. I like reading small sections and then sitting with them for a while.

OMG. This one reads just like a Jodi Picoult novel - when she switches from Amy to Isabelle and vice versa and gives you empathy for everyone. So good at showing us both sides of the coin.

This is a really interesting book: it spans 7 decades, addresses caste in India and the hierarchy under Brittish occupation, and a history of medicine and medical developments..... plus we have the water and drowning and renewal stuff. It's impressive.

God, I'm really loving this book this time around. It's so good.

I did not appreciate this book as much as a young person. It's so well written.

Never date a cop.

Chapter 5 is so perfectly written and so much like the housing crisis now.
