okay i know this is a condescending thing to write but i was kinda scared the prose would not be good bcs it's ya and a bit trope-y (no hate!) but i was pleasantly surprised, the prose is nice, dramatic but not cringe-inducing, and the metaphors don't feel forced

not to sound misogynistic but wow does it benefit kingfisher's story when there's no woman pov and so she's not trying to self-insert as relentlessly. also i really enjoy piper's character

i'm rather slow with this for a fantasy read because of various reasons, but i find i actually enjoy reading it in small parts and giving it time to nest within me

i don't understand the lack of capitalization (umm look who's talking??) and weird punctuation; i don't get most of the references, and it's a shame because most of antigone and ismene's conversations involve hegel for some reason?? but i have no idea about his writings...
i can see it's very clever though, and some parts that i did understand were hilarious (like the portrayal of guard and kreon)

oedipus at colonus done! i liked this less than oedipus rex, and i didn't quite understand why oedipus changed his mind here about his exile and whatnot. but he for sure is a compelling character and has a strong presence. also i notice that sophocles is witty and often snarky with his dialogue in a ways that neither aeschylus nor even euripides are (though it may be a matter of translation)
