Good grief this book has a prologue that begins with a hanging and then chapter one begins three years prior. This is not a promising start. Also seems like straight up fantasy with very very very little science so far. This might be a DNF.

Ugh, chapter 20 = not for me. I’m not keen on books with vomit inducing scenes. This book might be a DNF for me. Good grief on top of the poorly written sex scene it’s overall moving at a snail’s pace and a bit all over the place. Such a shame as the premise is so fun.

Ugghhh written in first person narrative, blah

This might be a DNF I don’t know how much more of this writing style I can withstand. Think lower middle grade without the charm, no subtext, all is text and very very simple… actually this really reads more like one of those texts for early readers level 3 or something along those lines.

Got through the book save for the last chapter/ epilogue and then unfortunately access expired due to the title expiring on #netgalley.

At this point with the book largely complete, things I liked: the call backs to the Book of Doors and hints at a larger universe, the objects themselves (mostly)

Without getting into spoiler territory- lots of deux ex machina happening that all felt far too tidy.

I’m not going to finish this… it’s too much of a thriller and is stressing me out.

Ugh, apparently this book is not on Kindle Unlimited, it only downloaded a sample. It’s also not available at my local library either…. Ah well.

I need a break from dystopian, dark, trauma filled books and am glad I have this new cozy fantasy to start reading. I enjoyed Once Upon a Tome and tend to largely universally love books involving sentient plants so I have high hopes for this one.

I’ve enjoyed the heck out of the Pandominion series so while I’ve been feeling a bit burnt out on fantasy lately, seeing as this is from the same person who brought me bunny people robots, it looks worth a read. Thanks #netgalley and Orbit for the ARC.

Huzzah, finished book 1 from this series less than 48 hours ago and now my ARC from Net Galley is here!

Ugh. White is not a default… this drives me bananas when authors only describe the appearance of the non-white characters (example “glamorous Black woman” and no skin color mentioned for the other characters already introduced) and one is what, supposed to assume everyone else is White?

Yes, I’m re-reading this book already…it’s because I have now finished the other two novels set in this universe (with many of the same characters and from an earlier time).

Reading despite it being heavily spoiled thanks to the preview of book THREE being included at the end of book ONE.

I really really really do not like and am not even remotely OK with the whole “she said no, but her eyes said yes,” as obtaining consent. That is very much not obtaining consent and I am beyond exhausted of this narrative and find it disgusting. Was this book written in 1970 or some other age when there wasn’t a discussion of the importance of consent?!

DNF.
