After 4 stories, I'm tapping out. The foreword written by her son was very nice, though.

Each story gets worse. I'm on the third now, which was darn near unbearable. It read like a poet decided they wanted to write a novella, so wrote down a bunch of ideas in the form of sentence fragments. Not sure I can finish this collection. The foreword by her son was great, though.

By golly, I'm determined to get through this mess. And ASAP.

I'm hate reading this thing. Why? Because I just joined a reading group and this is what they're reading and I don't want to show up empty handed. I've committed, so I'm going all the way.

Holy cow the writing is horrendous...

Wolff is becoming a favorite. He doesn't create the same tension Carver does, but he touches darker subjects Carver wouldn't, giving the feeling of "anything goes" in each story, which I love because you never know what's going to happen. Nothing worse than predictability. I dig you, Tobias Wolff!
