Jimmy Perez is made a much better character through Douglas Henshall's work. Reading the story is good for the setting, the atmosphere, and Henshall captured Perez with the jacket and quiet manner. A good read for Shetland (the show) fans like me.

This is where is all begins...unless there is a prequel.

Love, love, love ....Matthew Shardlake. I have completed the series, but missed book two and one...so here I am at #1 and I am a happy reader. C.J. Sansom has stayed steady on...and kept going strong (that is my spoiler).

Excellent atmospheric set up so far. The Searcher is a stand alone, and the author can write. at about page 25, I'm already feeling the author is not giving me the whole story...and setting me up for some literary manipulation...my interest is picqued!

I was able to listen to an author interview on Crowdcast from across the country, while the author lives here in the Bay Area. I look forward to reading more, and many people in my area have heard of this author.

He makes a very good and thoughtful interviewee, which makes me want to read the book.

Great read! I'm at page 100 and have to return it to the library . The author captures the internal world of a young person individuating from her parents. I absolutely cringe with Aunt! Wow! what a character! I laughed out loud while I was cringing!

This book is introducing a series of characters at the beginning. Nihilism comes to mind. This book comes highly recommended...I am just hoping it gets better.

Mae is 70% done with Norse Mythology
I have not read or listened to any of this author's work. I'm truly impressed! He writes a fantastic rendition of Norse Mythology, and reads his own work superbly! I love this audio book. I would also like to listen to it again and read along so I retain the names of the gods and places.

Moe Berg is a real life character upon whom many a novelist draws.

Mae is on page 50 of 546 of The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History
The author has next to zero respect for Alternative Medicine. He gives a detailed and biased historical background regarding medicine and medical training, and gives no mention of the rise of the A.M.A. That said, he picks up a good pace when he gets to The Warriors, appearing to be a better biographer than medical historian, at least in the beginning of the book.
