I started this for an upcoming book club. But I dont think I want to finish it. I might go to the book club anyway, to see if I should finish it. I get that Jemisin has said in interviews that she doesn’t do subtlety, but this just feels like bad writing. I’ve loved other stuff from her.

Y’all these books are so garbage. For a while it was fun to listen to them because they were at least trashy like reality tv. But it’s not even good junk food reading anymore. Only reason I’m not quitting the book is because I’m so close I might as well see if I can roll my eyes completely out of my head before I finish.

The smut starts early in this one. Currently thinking that if I have to listen to smut, it should at least be gay.

Oh. Timehop just reminded me that Kellie gave me this book five years ago on this day. What a coincidence!

Started this today. Kellie gave this to me YEARS ago and it’s been on my bedside table since then. I already love the writing.

I’m DNFing this. In case I come back to it: I stopped right before Exeunt IV.

I’m just not enjoying it enough to keep pushing through.

Okay. I’m struggling. I like the concepts. But there are either too many concepts, or they’re currently just too clumsy. At first I didn’t think I’d be able to finish, but now that I’m on page 60 I think some of the more confusing things are stressing me out less. If the author could just be consistent with their language that would be a big help.

I was about to start and try to finish a short book just so that I could make my good reads challenge this year (I’ll be one away). But... that’s silly, right? The challenge can stay a challenge. I’ll just keep reading the books I like. I also noticed that I intentionally didn’t start 1q84 earlier this year because it’s a monster and I wondered about how long it would take me. No more!
