Idk this is about to go in the DNF pile… it feels like a dream sequence…

Certainly an interesting new concept. The end was certainly bittersweet. Wish there had been some conclusion with Alba and aunt winny. The details about the magic and spellographs was so complicated I just skimmed most of it

So far good but not as good as the first one. It feels cheesy. You know those action words that a lot of authors use? “Shudder” “snicker” “cringe” or phrases like “elbowed in the ribs” stuff that doesn’t actually happen IRL. This book is full of them, every other sentence. So that’s irritating.

“Bag of flesh? Bitch please I know I look good.”
“Fucking ow” (after being stabbed in the stomach)


See its sentences like this that make me want to rip this book in half and throw it. Literally so cringe and gives me the biggest ick. The most annoying part is the rest of the writing is actually pretty good. So why the cringe?

Fuck the old woman and the husband and the old man. They’re all A-holes. Idk why this girl doesn’t just speak up and tell them to fk off. It’s so irritating.

Also the whole vibe is very crimson peak.

Honestly I can’t stand the whole ‘ignoring the terrible things someone said to me’ trope. Her brother literally kicked her out after her bf dumped her and he said “you’re not my sister anymore” and a few weeks later she just forgets about it and is thrilled to see him. Stupid.

Not loving the gaslighting. The girl has been through serious trauma and abuse and has PTSD surrounding small rooms and isolation, and castle is making her feel like shit for being aloof.

Style of writing is kind of irritating me. There’s a lot of random foreshadowing. It’s like the narrator is trying to be mysterious and it’s coming out awkward and cringey. It’s also frustrating that the POV bounces between the two main characters… super confusing.

Update, it’s gotten a little better. FMC is still insufferable, I’m just super disappointed in the potential for the character. As hard as the author tries to make her seem strong and brave it just makes her seem weaker.

Alright I realized the book is translated which explains the grammar.

FMC inner monologue is still cringey and annoying, but the spice makes it better.

Still extremely cringey in her POV. Something is also off with the grammar in this book idk if it’s an editing issue but I’m finding a lot of run-on sentences and clauses that don’t make sense.

“We have been kind so far, now?” Makes no sense, but contextually it should say “we’ve been kind so far….but now?” There’s a lot of these.

I’m honestly super sick of the FMC inner monologue already. The author created a cool character but it’s honestly ruined by the cringey shit she says. It’s borderline unbearable.

The POV is first person but very strange. Almost like it’s trying to break the fourth wall in a way? Too descriptive and awkward. Hopefully it’ll just blend in after a while

The plot is finally emerging. Wayyyyyy too many characters, names, species, powers. The hierarchy of the cities is also extremely complicated. A little unnecessary.

*spoiler* You know what I absolutely can’t STAND is when the MC is betrayed by the love interest or a friend and then finds out down the road that really the betrayal was for NOBLE reasons. So she basically has to gaslight herself saying it’s her own fault she got upset and she should’ve considered another reason for the betrayal…

Oh absolutely not. No effing way. Immediately taking two stars from this book. A singing performance? My god I’m dying of secondhand embarrassment

Oh good, now we’re ruining the tough, unfeeling male MC by making him a love bombing narcissist. Ffs.

Oh good, a desperate airport reunion. Never seen or heard of this before 😒

Thankfully the annoying friend and brother have disappeared into their own stories.

The MC was finally growing some backbone and loses it the minute the hot guy gifts her a big commission piece. Disappointing.

(By the way I’m not raging against the author, just the fictional characters who irritate me)

1. MC is a spineless pushover who can’t stand up and say boo.
2. Her best friend is a POS
3. Her bother is also a POS and an overbearing control freak
4. Oddly enough the douchey misogynistic brother’s best friend is the least insufferable so far.

Too many complicated names, city names, clan names. It’s a lot packed into the first few chapters and I started losing interest fast.

Good book but the main character Andy is annoying. The whole ‘too afraid to speak ever’ thing is aggravating.
