Looooove this so far! Such poignant storytelling. This was so beautifully said, “Mama had kept most of her childhood stories locked in her eyes. Mama’s stories were unsuited for the ears of children—stories of evil without consequence and pain without cease—the unholy things that happen when God blinks. Or maybe sleeps.”

What’s a step above terrible? Whatever it is, this is that. Dare I say it has gotten oddly better? I’m not sold on the writing yet tho
