Stuck this one on hold because Simpson is just being a perma-knob and I'm sick of him. I'm damn sure he wasn't this much of a tit in Touching the Void.

And we're done. I'm never going to get the hours back I spent reading the first 300 pages of this utter crap, and I'm not going to waste any more. DNF.

Now at the point of skipping whole paragraphs where Simmons just lists names of characters I wouldn't recognise if they sat on me, or describes ice in all its variations. This book has an absolutely terrific TV adaptation, but reading it is boring as fuck. Plus point - gets me to sleep 100% of the time.

As soon as I read the line "she was immobilised, frozen - a statue carved from ice" I knew this was going to be absolute wank. I'm 100 pages in now and just hate reading it for LOLs.

Finished it. Again. *sighs happily*

Not only is this book fascinating but, thanks to lugging the paperback version around, my biceps are now twice as big as they were and I can break rocks with my fists.

I think I have given up on this book. It seemed safer than launching it out of a window.

Having covid was literally more fun than reading this book.
