Slowly chipping away at this one

It's super weird that there appears to be romantic interest between OP and a *sixteen-year-old* ffs

This book is so cosy that it's giving me no sense of achievement.

This is a really specific annoyance, but the author's metaphors and non-defining clauses consistently use the same rhythm, and it's driving me up the wall.

I actually haven't touched this in over a year. While I loved Grann's book about the lost city of Z, and have separately purchased that about the shipwreck, I'm not sure I can keep going with this one.

This writing is soooooo boring

Halfway - a milestone!

I am enjoying the hell out of this. I looove some criticism discourse analysis, and this is so validating.

A scene I am actually enjoying... miraculous

Unsurprisingly, this book is a total bummer

Exactly the kind of brain break I've been needing.

Making progress in this = how you know I've done chores today.

Shocked to see the phrase "the left-behinds" in here. What is the full story behind it? Is it from the miners' strikes and later reforms, this book, or the post-Brexit literature more generally? Maybe Goodwin grabbed it from elsewhere?

Even though getting through this series has been a SLOG, it's still somehow emotional to be starting the final/fourteenth book. (The intro music did *not* need to go this hard.)

This book, alarmingly, makes the idea of doing a triathlon sound way too much fun.

I am hoping and begging for an epic conclusion.

Same reaction as Matt tbh

Even though it was ultimately predictable, I have been hanging out for this scene for a LOT of books in the series.
