Reading about people who’ve done something to change the world in a positive way has the dual effect of making one reflect on all the ways they haven’t but could be and also motivating them to do so in the future.

I loved the story of how Brown Jackson met her husband— this was the most interesting part of the book thus far. But then it goes back to genealogy and I think that’s where it may lose readers. While I realize why genealogies are included, I’m much more interested in the stories like how she met her husband and wish there was more focus on interesting anecdotes like those.

Flat characters, hard to get into.

Such an intensely detailed account of Brown Jackson’s life, but still interesting!

A long, detailed read, but I’m always interested in reading about people who broke barriers because that’s something that takes an immense amount of motivation, fortitude, and self-confidence to do— all of which are in short supply especially in a highly critical culture. But I guess the immense criticism of our society is more visible in the age of the Internet, which Brown’s career beginning predates.

Impossible to put down.
