I fail to express how much I'm loving this so far. Since 2019 I've been putting this off due to the fear of it being an extremely political novel—despite having loved Animal Farm.
However the world building of 1984 is simply amazing. It is psychologically intense
bleak, lonely, and focused on inner suffering, memory, identity. I am invested

I don't really know what to say/analyse other than the fact that everything at the moment is extremely exciting!!

This is PEAKKKKKK. Having waited so long only for Lise's character to become corrupted tho 😢 (it was NOT what I was expecting 😢) — "Everyone says they hate morality yet secretly the all like it". Dmitri's character arc development is so fascinating and the brotherly love between him and Alyosha in the prison visit scene is so heartwarming 🥰. I hope the truth of the murder comes to light!

Poor Dmitri🥲 but where is liseee 😭 but man this read is genuinely such an adventure

Poor illyusha…😢😢 other than that the dynamic between Alyosha and Kolya is 💯💯💯💯💯💯 and their "declaration of love" was just the cherry on top. Kolya's admiration/obsession with alyosha is genuinely just so wholesome and I love their intellectual exchanges. It is comforting to see Kolya being so understood.

Almost towards the end of "The Boys" and man I love Kolya; he's literally a miniature version of my beloved Ivan. The interactions between all the boys and Alyosha and the whole Perezvon/Zhucha situation was super wholesome 🥹. I'm very excited to dive into Ivan's part very soon!

For once I actually feel bad for Dmirtri???? Haven't updated in a while but man Dmitry is actually insane and this investigation is giving me a bunch of incomprehensible thoughts, and literally the entire family drama revolves around Grushenka is urghhhhhh

Damn the whole of The Russian Monk has lots of inspiring thoughts on life, God and Christianity. Reading this during my work break had proved to be difficult and I'll definitely need to revisit this part sometime in the near future.

Alyosha and Lise's dynamic was so cute. Have gotten to know Ivan more deeply in "The Brothers reunited" and have found myself resonating with him so much. Everything is so sweet and emotionally tender at the moment; lots of talk on the Napoleon Wars and other literature references and I just cannot put it down…

Unable to finish this tonight unfortunately as I am far too sleepy and I have work tomorrow but these letters feel so intimate like a genuine emotional hug and I for sure feel immersed in the 1903 European world of scholars. Talks about beauty, solitude, finding yourself, art, and poetry feel immensely comforting and the relationship between Rilke and Xaver feels wholesome and genuine love despite having never met.
