Wow. Even for a junior elementary book, this was incredibly flat, boring, predictable, unfunny. At least it was short. It taught nothing, and was overly simple and dumb. My 5th grader was bored and commented on the lack of creativity. Impressive indicator of the book's quality given his limited experience with fiction. 1,000 better J-fic.

DNF. Yeeeeeeeeah that's gonna be a tap-out from me, Cotton. Misery. 10 hours into an audiobook. Cool premise, but ENDLESS ezposition in dialogue of people standing in a room, or taking a walk, and blabbing at each other. Endless world-building about politics and magic systems and secrets. Just a bummer of a debut. This was not the Droid I was looking for.

Completed the full 21 issue story over 2 years. In my top 100 comic runs of all time now.

This middle started getting weirdly paced. The book had been perfect.

Phenomenal. However it may end, it's potentially a fantasy of 2026, and certainly one of the best I've read in a decade.

this is salve for the soul. When you get in a rhythm of reading these, and anticipating the chills and tropes, it's like eating McDonald's double. It's trash, but you eat it all the same.

I say this as a MASSIVE LotR fan. I watch the extended trilogy multiple times a year. This book is really, really average. Maybe the novelty of the time in which it was released, but I'm desperate to find time and energy to finish it with my 10 year old, and it's a chore for me. I'm at the point where I'm skimming pages when I read it out loud to him. You can quote me. I'm not sure if I'll ever actually read the trio
