My problem with this book is that I can’t help hearing Stephen Fry’s voice as I read it. I love Stephen Fry, but his writing style is very much the same as how he speaks but here it’s too distracting. Maybe I should have bought the audible version. I will try to come back to it!

It’s boring and I’ve abandoned ...

I was going to try and finish this for August, but it just didn’t grab me. The descriptive writing is great but there’s some repetitive phrasing at the start which brought me out of the story and I’m not that intrigued by the mystery. It might have helped if I’d read the first one, I suppose.

Yes one and a half months in and I’ve waded through more mud than I thought possible in Essex. I know this has rave reviews, but god it’s like a dirge. I need a character I can warm to, not cleverness and overcrafted words about ... mud.
I’ll persevere for a while, but suspect I’ll be admiring the cover and not getting to the end.

Okay, so I know I said I wasn't clamouring to read books 2 and 3, but as I've borrowed them and not had to pay ... So far, this is much better than Captive Prince. More politics and action, and Laurent is starting to emerge.

I'm struggling to finish this. I hate not finishing books, but the trouble is I can't work out if this is comedy or tragedy. I've just found out Blade Rudder's based on this. But I don;t know that film either - ha ha. Oh dear.

Fabulousness. Already referenced Harry Potter AND Game of Thrones.
