I must admit to much 🙄 during the first 1/3 of the book, a little too tropey & trite, but the tone and story has improved and I’m enjoying it so much more.

Listening to audible book narrated by Dan Stevens - he’s an excellent narrator and enjoying very much.

The Hungry Ghost festival which is central to this book is celebrated today, Saturday, September 6, 2025. What a coincidence!

Starting audiobook for the commute.

I am late in starting the thousands of WWII novels that have been published (yet I have been collecting them for YEARS). I’m glad I started here. It’s an easy read, sometimes I’m in a little disbelief with how our protagonist seems to so quickly overcome the tremendous feelings with which she is confronted, but perhaps it could be true. It was war. And this is a pretty fiction.

Loving this book so far. Their mother has died pages ago but she, despite her tragic death (because of her tragic death?) continues to be a major force in the story.

I started this trilogy 3 years ago and had to stop at book 3 because I was devastated by ********.
I’ve started over (I barely remember book 2) and hopefully will be strong enough to get through book 3.

For some reason the song Found Out About You by the 90s band The Gin Blossoms won’t get out of my head for this book. And it’s very appropriate!

Just finished chapter 18….who else is rooting for Anne to make a huge recovery and live?

Omgosh this book is boring me.
Deciding whether to DNF or put on hiatus.

I’ve just discovered that Alexa will read the book to me while I’m driving. It’s not as nuanced as an Audible book but does the job.

Holy moly the angst. I can’t almost bear it.

Enjoying the book so far. Flip flops from past to present with each chapter and at times feels disjointed due to the frequent time changes.

At 60% of the book I’m still awaiting Alma’s deep secret. It’s been hinted for the last few chapters and I’m wondering what could it be. I’m trying not to be impatient and skipping ahead to discover the big reveal. I’m hoping to be rewarded for my patience.
