I developed a fever while reading The Stand, but it passed swiftly. I've now got a bit under eight hours of listening remaining and I may try to finish it today (I'm off work this week) so that I can start on a book that I pre-ordered (An Instruction in Shadow by Benedict Jacka).

I've paused indefinitely on this short story collection. It's not bad, but it wasn't what I was in the mood for. I'll get back to it.

The sounds levels have a few issues for listening while driving, which is my primary audiobook listening environment. It's not terrible, but some of the female characters seem to be quiet.

Heavy.

Taylor continues with similar themes and situations to his previous efforts (the Bobiverse series) with a moderately more serious tone. He pays good attention to detail, pacing, and character building, without getting bogged down in any of them too much. Overall, I find Taylor's style engaging at the story level without being fatiguing. I've rapidly become a fan.
