Literally goosebumps and the sensation of being inside the very scene.

Nearing the end now. Heartbreaking, uplifting, mesmerizing, breathtaking... Standing on a platform with the cold wind blowing around me and I am reading about Petya's dream on the battlefield... Sitting in the sunshine reading about Pierre's sudden enlightening revelation... And all the tender and gruesome moments in between...

Raskolnikov's confession to Sonya is unlike anything I ever read. So powerful. Grips my heart.

So dark... But brilliant. The continuous switching from interior to exterior (rooms, staircases, streets - perception, thoughts, emotions) is very intriguing. As is the fact that I care for the main character even though he is extremely unlikable.

Finished Volume One and am speechless. Wow.

I feel like going to Russia to Tolstoy's grave to thank him for this amazing novel. It's giving me tears and goosebumps. Already I look forward to rereading it.

Part 1 of Book 2 (the year 1806) is so moving I can only read so much at a time. Truly amazing.

Some of the battle scenes are truly breathtaking, transforming my sense of place and time. The descriptions of each character, their thoughts and emotions, are often very moving or stirring. This is turning out to be an amazing book.
