Finding out that Le Fanu stole this from a woman’s letters to a supernatural investigator/doctor and tbh it makes a lot of sense. No man in the 19th century could have ever hoped to write a sapphic story this well.

Personally, I find it distasteful to argue in favor of giving AI rights when we can’t even manage to do that for the majority of the human population.

Also, Jesus is this writing god-awful. There is literally a point where the author wrote “significant pause” in the middle of a sentence and it somehow wasn’t edited out?

Ughhh this is making me physically cringe. It’s painfully corny.

The writing is so delicate, so exquisite, so beautiful, that it verges on painful.

Every time I open this book and start reading, it gives me a headache almost instantly. I want to DNF so damn bad, but I’m also almost through. But these disparate elements are killing me. Now Hitler conspiracy theories have been introduced? What’s next? 9/11 denials? I genuinely have no idea.

It’s really captivating, weirdly enough. I’m having trouble putting it down.
