I had to do a double take to see if this was fact or fantasy, since honestly the depictions of HS oppression sound fairly on point. A heart wrenching topic to be sure. I wonder how many of the critics who trashed this read here are LGBTQA+, or are allies. Bcz honestly if you’re not either then maybe check yourself before you wreck yourself.

pandemic wish fulfillment read. The first bit tastes like 2020.

Oh holy hell this is good. Best use of my reading time in a while.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again; Nora Jemisin is a badass sci-fi writer. I haven’t been this entertained since my last PKD novel. I can’t even remember when I last read fantasy and enjoyed it. humdrum epic fantasy is usually a booorrre. THIs book tho’ clearly includes real social dynamics with real characters that lead seriously oppressed lives in one fuuucked up society. I am now officially a fan.

So far this is a pretty dope story.

Just in chapter 2. I needed a break from al the serious shit recently. Fucking awesome writing. Not enough publicity on black women sci-fi writers either so I recommend you folk check out this series. yup.
