I know this book is not mainly about him and I appreciate that but also Sam Vimes my beloved

Once again this book has no reason to be this damn long. Frankly I'm bored of the repetitive sex interrupting the sparse plot. If you insist on 600 pages at least give the reader more plot segments

The erotica is decent but at 300 pages there's only so much you can do without just rehashing the same scenes again and again. She falls on her handcuffed hands and it hurts, she gets tied down and they bone roughly.

And the actual plot is barely there in between it. There is no reason for this book to be this long, especially as the start of a series

I've barely started and everything is written like a melodramatic overwrought fanfic

This would've been a lot better if the history didn't seem like the author picked random notable names and made up backstory for them. It would have all been much more immersive to make up families entirely than to take what feels like bare minimum research and attach characters at random

Also Nina is infuriatingly wishy washy and childish and almost deliberately stupid

The name dropping of local Omaha businesses feels weird and performative. Like the author is trying to nudge and wink the reader, but instead of an interesting easter egg it's coming off as pushy with how many there are. Again I wonder what the families of these people would think since neither is exactly being kindly painted

It's fun to read a story set in the city I live in, even if its in the early 1900's. But Nina is kind of flat and passive even for all her trying to solve her family's problems

"Look at you. Same as you were. Same as you've been. What a catch"

Lauren always makes her characters feel so real and even without being tall I've related to Vienna and her body image issues but that passage just made me cry such good tears.

I like the premise but it's already confusing with the jumps between past and present
