Don’t worry. I’m reading this for work.

This isn’t going particularly well. Has anyone read this and can give me some encouragement? I mean, she’s brilliant obviously, but I’m struggling to want to read. This is a thick text. Not the kind of thing to please or charm or entertain anyone at a dinner party if you know what I mean. Wowza.

Wait why does everyone love this book so much? Does it get more hopeful?? It’s unlocking some serious new fears.

Holy cow. Strong out of the gate. That’s one of the strongest beginnings I’ve ever read.

*speaking through a scratchy megaphone* This is not a religious history. I repeat, THIS IS NOT A RELIGIOUS HISTORY. Yes, I read the subtitle, but the title led me to believe this was going to cover religious and cultural history at some level. The sooner I can let go of that, the sooner I will be able to appreciate it for what it actually is.
