Describing Hitler as "artist/politician" is so hilariously demeaning.

Speer's remarks on whether Hitler noticed him or "paid special attention" to him, and then the happiness when the aloofness abated, is very reminiscent of a teenage girl.

Even Hitler thought the Nazi administration was conducted "in an indescribably stupid manner".

Only in government is 37 considered part of the youth.

Admittedly, Speer is not wrong in saying that Hitler's buildings were meant to be a lasting expression of the Nazi movement. Sites such as Kongresshalle still showcase Nazi ideals to visitors all these years later.

I think it's very difficult to understand the power Hitler's speeches had via print because you miss out on the rhetoric and dramatism.

Arendt is correct here, more than she knows, when she discusses the Jewish narrative post-war. Sweeping the active participation of the Jewish leaders in the Holocaust under the rug, burying that "unfortunate truth", made a clearer picture of Victims vs Perpetrators and ultimately led to the creation of Israel. Consequences of which we still suffer.

"Now, when the bankruptcy can no longer be concealed, they betray the house that went broke, in order to establish a political alibi for themselves - the same men who have betrayed everything that was in the way of their claim to power."

Unfortunate that my own family is one who suffered a crisis of conscience and went along with the Nazis.
