Why the hell do all these criminals have Volkswagen Beetles??

Ooh now I'm learning about the Vietnam War! This is actually a fantastic book for learning general knowledge with a sprinkling of murder.

I had no idea Dune was partially inspired by Tacoma/Seattle and the industry there in the early 20th century! Pretty cool and also not a great picture of what living there must have been like.

Took a bit but I understand the dots being drawn together with all this discussion of smelters and pesticides now.
Thanks to this book I never want to visit Tacoma again

This is interesting so far, but also kinda all over the place. So far I've learned about local natural disasters (earthquakes and volcanoes), Seattle's bridges, the Guggenheim family (including how the one on the Titanic died), and Tacoma's ore smelters.

Way more discussion of geography than I expected.
