It’s fun to read fantasy/sci fi after taking a break for so long. The narration can be slightly cringe sometimes but the plot is super engulfing. Glad I picked this up, a friend gave me his copy of the book years ago and I’ve been meaning to read it ever since.

Unfortunately excellent.

If any victim deserves to be blamed, it’s Victor Frankenstein.

While I wish this book had more critical analysis than just demonstrating historical examples of afrofuturism in art, I’m learning so much.

Dude… holy shit

This book was written during the Obama era, which puts a really interesting layer of hope and excitement to it. Curious to see how this will continue to affect the authors outlook.

This is such a cute line from John Knightley thinking on Mr Weston.

“Such a man, to quit the tranquility and independence of his own fireside, and on the evening of a cold sleety April day rush out again into the world!—could he by a touch of his finger have instantly taken back his wife, there would have been a motive; but his coming would probably prolong rather than break up the party.” 282.

I watched the movie Emma and loved it, and I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy the book as much if I knew the ending, but I’m enjoying all the delightful “additions” the book brings to the story.

this book is a must read despite the fact that it will turn you into a person that genuinely talks to multiple different parts of yourself in your head
