There was not even an attempt at veiling the impotent male power fantasy in the conclusion. Genuinely dumbfounded how a short story could end so poorly. It wasn’t even offensive, it was just boring. There’s all this intrigue about this evil oppressive state and then the main character is like, actually I’m escaping on my “phallic” (direct quote) spaceship. Could’ve been reading James Joyce.
