I am beginning to suspect that Tolstoy wrote this entire book because yelling "Napoleon is not actually a military genius" from his rooftop was inconvenient. He wanted to argue with the historians and set the record straight.

So basically this story is about men realizing they were in fact happy all long, right before they fall of a cliff (a metaphorical clif, but a cliff nevertheless)

There are so many Russian dudes fangirling for Napoleon who they are fighting against, that I am annoyed.

Prince Andrei is a jerk. Pierre is a confused cinnamon roll. Anna Mikhailovna (Boris ' mother) is quite the wholesome schemer.

Oh, an the War is against Napoleon. Did you know that? I sure didn't.

What a lovely story!!!! So far I am loving the characters, and the plot and the pace and the prose. Basically everything about this story.

Oh my. It appears that the author prefers uneven relationship dynamics. The all powerful Scarlet Pimpernel and his flailing adoring wife. The all knowing Lady Molly, so beautiful, so wise and her humble sidekick who obeys her blindly and adores her and is always clueless as that what is happening in the xaset.

Not liking that. And on top of I have reached the story where a woman is married to a mentally disabled man

Here is the thing...maybe the Baroness and I weren't meant to get along

It's fun, my only current criticism is that the author tends to repeat the analysis of the main girls feelings.

b. the author has gotten lost and so have I
the potential of this story vs. what I we are getting is killing me

c I suspect some kind of twist coming up to wrap everything together but at what cost

d Reardelle is an incredible character and she is underutilized
The magicians are amazing and quirky and funny and they are underutilized
The romance had so much potential
