Ch 117 5 October

Max meets the Count of Monte Cristo on the island, where he learns that all of the Counts wealth is now his. Morrel is devastated by the loss of Valentine, taking hashish to die. But, he realizes Val is alive and has been rescued by Haydee. The novel ends with the couple heading toward a new life, and the Count and Haydee embracing their love, while both couples hold onto hope for the future

Danglars continue to negotiate his remaining money, paying thousands for food in prison until he has only 50,000 francs left. At this point, the Count arrives with Vampa and announces that he is pardoning Danglars. He reveals that Villefort is now mad with grief and Fernand has committed suicide. The Count reveals hes Edmond Dantes and explains that Danglars financial ruin is his punishment

Reflecting on the lives he has lived since his escape the Count realizes he needs a new purpose. On his return to Marseille, he encourages Max to hope and makes a promise to meet him on October 5th. With that the Count sets sail for Italy, bidding Morrel farewell for now

The Count drugs Valentine, making her appear dead. Mme de Villefort believes she has succeeded in killing Valentine, and when a doctor is called, he confirms her death. Maximilien, reassured by the Count, arrives to find Valentine seemingly lifeless, while the doctor takes away a vial of suspected new poison. Villefort is distraught and broken. His daughter is seemingly dead!

Valentine pretends to sleep as her stepmother, Heloise, tries to poison her, revealing her as the poisoner. Danglar, it seems, has suddenly become daughterless.

Andrea and Eugénie are signing under the marriage contract in Danglars home, when Edmond and M. Danglar started talking about the murder of Caderousse and how his waistcoat with a letter of evidence has been found. Andrea, on hearing this flees, and in the same moment, the police arrive asking for him intending to arrest him.

Ch 95. Father and Daughter

Before the poisoning, Eugénie calls for her father, Danglar, and tells him she doesn't want to marry Andrea Cavalcanti. She doesn't, in fact, want to marry anyone. Since she is a very logical and cold person, Danglar tells her honestly that he simply wants Andreas money and is using her for that purpose. She understands and agrees to the marriage.

Ch 94 Confession

Villefort calls the doctor to help find the culprit after Valentine falls ill. Noirtier has been giving her small doses of poison to build her tolerance. Meanwhile, Maximilien asks the Count for help. Though the Count is devoted to Max, he is conflicted as he seeks revenge on Villefort. After confirming Valentines survival, Abbe Busoni (the Counts alias) buys the house next to the Villeforts

Maximilien visits Valentine, who announces she and Noirtier will move out. M. Danglars and Eugenie visit to announce Eugenie’s marriage to Andrea, though Eugenie would prefer not to marry at all. Meanwhile, Valentine, feeling unwell, reveals she is taking the same potion Noirtier uses, which the doctor once identified as a poison. Valentine collapses and Noirtier and Maximilien call for help
