Got recommended this book by a friend about a year ago - finally reading it now. I didn't remember or wasn't aware of the fact that it's a retelling of The Great Gatsby from Jordan's perspective...then I read the opening line.

I'm partly excited, partly apprehensive, to get back into this world through Jordan's eyes, in a fantasy-world retelling - one might say that I'm "simultaneously enchanted and repelled."

Guys, I'm almost done and I'm so scared to get to the ending.

"And there was revived in her the wretched sentiment which had often come to her before, that in inhabiting the fleshy tabernacle with which Nature had endowed her, she was somehow doing wrong." -ch. 45, p. 329

Okay, I take it back, maybe Angel's not that great. -_- I'm incredibly disappointed, even though I figured as much. I hate this book. Five stars, sure! Hardy's writing is immaculate! But this book is torturous.

This book is so damn dramatic and I'm LOVING it. I'm just gonna start putting quotes I like in my updates -

"I wish I were a girl again, half savage and hardy, and free; and laughing at injuries, not maddening under them! Why am I so changed?" -Catherine, p. 125

this book is making me sympathetic to horrible characters! *really really* horrible characters!!!
