Kind of…. Well. I don’t have big expectation so far, and each chapter is confirming that.

It’s not bad! It’s just… kind of… Freeform/CW lite. Each family is a weird stereotype. And I found myself arguing with some logic in the book — it’s a book about witches in Illinois, why I can’t grant it more liberties is on me.

(But seriously, who holds a HS grudge/heartbreak for 9 years?)

I don’t have high hopes. lol But, I know this is kind of “fluff” so I’m trying not to hold it to higher standards than I should.

I can’t get the book to load on my iPad at all. Sooooo. This should be fun.

God I’m loving this book so much!

Ok. So maybe something just happened that might have given this book some legs to stand on -- and justified glossing over 5 years of action in the first half of the book.

I still have strong opinions about that, but I'm at least willing to give this book a chance now. Something I was hesitant to do a couple of chapters ago. Was very close to DNF-ing.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. Was really looking forward to it.... but... Grossman tells so much more than shows us. It's a little frustrating. But when he actually does put you in the action, I'm ok with it. It just feels unbalanced that way....

I'm kind of meh on Quentin right now....
and anyone else just feel like the fox scene was a little wrong?

Outside of the author's inability to recognize the difference in "poisonous' vs. "venomous" (ie. that these are venomous snakes, not poisonous), it's been an interesting read. He's just starting to tie certain connections and stuff together, so I'm curious to see how it all falls together in the end.

At this point I just can't any more with this book. Unless someone outright tells me this whole deal with the dominate overbearing obsessively controlling vampire bit gets better/goes away... I just don't think I want to waste my time any more.

Struggling to like this book. Sort of getting tired of authors building up this great, smart independent woman only to have her crumble at the first major problem and need a man (or in this case, a vampire) to save her. (And the whole overbearing, dominating vampire thing is really tired.) Going to try to stick it out a bit more, and hope maybe it surprises me. But my hopes are very slim.

Omg too many characters to try to remember where we left off...

Oh hi big ole sex scene right in the beginning of the book.

Did the first book have much sex in it? I don't remember? Or was it semi-detailed like this one?

Ugh. Already hating the changing first person narrative. At least make it omnipresent third if you're going to switch POV.

This whole sort of futuristic dumbing down/forgetting about our current modern world frustrates me. Satterday instead of Saturday. Holly Days instead of holidays. But yet the protagonist knows about Pedro Linares and Alebrijes. To not know ballet but know Othello. It feels inconsistent and can be frustrating.

I want to like it... But struggling through it. Too much info dumping. There was also twice when the author made modern reference (the artist regarding the Hounds comes to mind first) that were just... It felt unnatural. Now that she's finally set up for, hopefully, more consistent action, I'll keep with it for a bit. Fingers crossed.
