There are multiple times during this war where Fidel Castro walks up to Batista soldiers and suspected sympathizers, pretends to be a Batista high ranking officer, bosses them around and gets them to do what he wants. He even chastises them for not catching Fidel yet. 10/10 gigachad maneuver.

This is somewhat difficult to get through. Really good information though. The constant changes within the apostolate is sort of difficult to keep track of, but I get the picture.

Made me realize how little I know about Catholicism or the Church.

Also thank you to that Bishop that pleaded to Batista to not execute Castro. Massive W.

Going from reading on the DPRK to this really reinforces how bad the fall of the USSR was for any place not aligned with the Neoliberal West. The 90's were rough for these places (not so much Cuba, more so DPRK), and it's crazy the world just applauded this, despite it being an undemocratic process which would starve multiple parts of the world, diminish women's rights (USSR) and bolster human trafficking (USSR)

No idea why the author casts as much doubt as he does toward the war crimes museum in Sinchon. Of course proving the specifics might be difficult, but the scenes described there are all too common in countries where the US military was involved in invasions. I don't know how he can lecture about orwellian doublethink, etc, and show dprk citizens empathy constantly then cast doubt at their darkest historical chapter.

Min is so wonderful. I hope nothing bad ever happens to her and she's doing well.

Not sure if I should be feeling this way about this book, but I'm finding it pretty hilarious. The language alone makes the book worth reading. I'm not sure if this was the intention, but it feels like a glaring indictment of British slang/vocabulary (from an American's perspective). I haven't watched the movie for about a decade now but from what I remember I'm enjoying this version much more. Real horrorshow so far
