"This covers quite a lot of ground in a very smooth and accessible manner. Just now though i would say van der kolk is treading on some sketchy ground though. I've read one of the main criticisms of him is his support of repressed memories, which afaik is a debunked idea in psychology. "So far pretty much what I expected. Im trying to have an open mind and not be a hater but so far this is just an inferior/lazy sort of pseudoscientific version of Crosby's Ecological Imperialism (not that theres nothing good about GGS!). The introduction yaps on way too much on some beleaguered points that arent necessary and the implication that metallurgy/firearms are important as germs is already turning me off" — May 21, 2026 12:10AM
