Hope is starting The House in the Cerulean Sea (Cerulean Chronicles, #1)
I really hope the plot of this book isn’t “autistic man turns neurotypical.” Because the main character seems pretty clearly autistic to me and he’s having difficulties with his interactions the first time he meets new people. It would suck if it was a heartwarming story of how they all just got along at the end. I’m on chapter 6, of I never come back and edit this review.

Not sure if I can make it through this book. I’m 26% of the way through and It’s exactly like every other romance book.

Hope is starting Phoenix (Ember Town #2)
The most vivid description of what it is like to be autistic I’ve ever read. It’s reminding me of me. Lol, I think this author just convinced me to try to find out if I’m autistic when Phoenix narrated, “… the words were not ready to start working yet.” Because that’s what I’m like when I wake up too.

Hope is starting ImPerfect Curse (The ImPerfect Cathar, #2)
I’m thoroughly enjoying these books, but there’s way too much description. He walked down a path that looked like this and that and then this other thing looked some way. It distracts from the plot.
Don’t get me wrong, great books. Loving them. But when something bugs me this much, I have to speak. I hope nobody reads this review, because I’m complaining about something trivial in a really good book.

Hope is starting Smoke Happens (The Supernatural Bounty Hunter Files #9)
The author doesn’t seem to have done a bit of research about pregnancy or birth. He probably assumed that the movies got it all right, and didn’t bother to ask any women who have had babies to read it and check for accuracy. I’m enjoying the series, but this is really distracting me from the plot. And from the characters. And from the emotion that’s supposed to be evoked by this part of the book.

Simon R Green’s nightside books are brilliant. They’re creative and unapologetically weird. This one seems like it apologizes every time it’s weird. It seems like he’s trying to write something more normal, and still figuring out how.

Hope is starting Smoke on the Water (The Supernatural Bounty Hunter Files #4)
I’m enjoying the series so far, but this one is stretching my ability to suspend disbelief. The main character is able to live indefinitely without a job? And afford things like cabs on no salary?

Also, I hate books with people in power who have it out for the protagonist. It hits my inner child’s “it’s not fair!!!” emotions. So I’m struggling to make it through this book.

Hope is starting Back to Nature (Spirit Seeker, #3)
I’m really enjoying this series. It’s just my kind of Urban fantasy!

Rika and her team travel to Ireland to research the history of Druids and spirits, so Wulf can figure out the differences between what he was taught (spirits are evil, unthinking menaces) and what he’s only just seen with his own eyes (Rika proving all the propaganda wrong by successfully convincing spirits to cooperate).

I’m enjoying it, like every Hollows book, but the book keeps making me fear for the lives of characters that I love. It’s too much negative emotion!

Hope
Hope is starting Wakers (The Side Step Trilogy #1)
Laz wakes up in a clone tank, tries to survive alone in a dystopian future, etc. it starts so slow that I almost gave up on it even though it’s by Orson Scott Card. He tries to get philosophical like Neal Stevenson has been doing. Maybe he’s doing well, because I don’t think I have made it through many of Neal Stevenson’s tomes. I guess we’ll see!

Hope is starting Black Sheep (Feathers and Fire, #6)
Why on earth do I never get in fights while completely naked and surrounded by fully clothed men? This series portrays it as a very common occurrence. There are more breasts in these books than in Game of Thrones!

Very good books, even if the author clearly has the “male gaze” focused on his main character, taking away some of her power. He tries really hard to give it back.

Hope is starting Broken (In the Best Possible Way)
Just a warning… it’s very off-color. Completely hilarious, kind-hearted, and relatable, but if you’re very 1990s-religious or easily offended by bawdy humor, this is not the book for you.

Don’t do what I did. I was home sick with a fever when I read it. The math was very challenging for my fever-addled brain. Still a good book, though.

Hope is starting I Am Princess X
I thought this one might be good for me and my daughter to read together, because it had a cool princess capable of defending herself on the cover. I read a few chapters, and it definitely is not that. Not for the ten-year-old daughter I have. The book is sad for a while, then talks about murder and stuff. Maybe when she’s in high school. But I’ll need to read it myself first then too, to make sure.

Good book. But I'm so irritated at the combat in this book. Melee character stands there taking wave after wave of magic damage and all he ever does is raise his sword higher? I even reread the previous few pages to see if he was chained to the floor or something. Nope!

Hope is starting Spinning Silver
It seems to be an intriguing retelling of rumplestiltskin, made more realistic. A girl in rural Russia with all the problems Jews had in those days, takes over her father's money lending business. Her proud grandfather says that she can turn silver into gold. The wrong elf-like monster overhears it. And that's where everything goes wrong. And that's also where I am in the book, as I write this. Exciting!

Hope is starting The Stand
What is Stephen King? A teenage boy still? He sexualizes every character, from prepubescent boys to 108-year-old women! It's distracting. It's also annoying. That (probably fake) statistic that teen boys think of sex every seven minutes is true of this audiobook!
