Equal parts irritating and distracting that the author has used the word “ambivalent” both correctly and incorrectly several times so far.

Ambivalent about this book so far. On the plus side, I’m sucked into Marian’s storyline completely and I don’t want to put the book down. On the flip side, the characters are too self-aware in ways that make their resulting actions improbable and frustrating. The author doesn’t trust her readers and must spoon-feed us. Insulting. And the ‘shroom scene was almost physically painful. Onward… tentatively.

Amen to that.

Audiobook was not the best format for this one, though the narrator’s voice and accent are quite the treat. I’ll try it again in text.

R (2.5 years) is currently obsessed with this book, and I can see why. Bright, simple illustrations with plenty of things to discuss on each page. The flaps are nice and thick and easy for her to handle herself. And of course… puppies. I’ll be searching out more from this series.

I love Steinbeck, but this might be too slow for an audiobook.

Oz was really good at forgiving me on my bad days. I hope I was as accommodating to him.

Didn’t everybody want somebody to glow like that? Even if it could only last for never, it had to be known. That way, it could be mourned by somebody, thus remembered and maybe, someday, repeated.”
