It would be better if an author who does not believe in the Bible and mocks Christianity did not try to use the Bible and its histories to progress his story. We are not descendants of Cain but the characters discuss that we are to make it simple for the tale (two sons - twins). Time after time Steinbeck speaks in a nasty way about the characters who are believers. So far I am not seeing why this book is useful.

Interesting premise for a book. Hoping that I enjoy it.

I wish the sword and knife were a little more fleshed out. (Bad joke intended)

Why is it necessary to have Fern hate the monks?

It seems this author mentions a lot how ambitious both Abraham and Mary Lincoln were in the political sphere. And there is a lot detail that seems superfluous to the book and plot.
