I just can’t even talk about this book in public… I am absolutely enamored with Roark… with this book being his POV of the budding relationship with Violet (lucky lil bitch! Lol), I fell for him even harder this book. I read the second book of the series and was not impressed. I am glad I gave this book the chance, because it’s been a very positive experience! 😉 No orgasms today - YET…

I wonder how much the landscape has changed in the last 56 years. Flowers that he considered to be rare then, are probably distinct today. Much of this makes me sad. What did evolution do? What adaptations was it able to make? Definitely going to have to follow up on these questions. It’s weird just reading an actual book anymore! I’ve been reading on my phone or on my Kindle for so long and it’s quite strange

Some of these flowers are really cool! Apparently, Bear grass, a member of the lily family, if its roots are boiled can be a substitute soap! Indigenous people used the leaves for making baskets, hats, pouches, and water- tight containers. I love this kind of shit!

Or maybe it’s just that he is a fourth generation Oregonian… and so am I. And I recognize many of the flowers as ones I have seen on my own hikes and wandering during my lifetime… I have learned quite a bit since I started this book yesterday. I kind of started in the middle and then after a couple of hours I thought I would go back to the beginning and read it cover to cover. So I am.

I have never seen myself sitting down and reading a book about wildflowers cover to cover but the author of this book charmed me… and I’m just hooked. This book was written in 1970 but I dig this guy! He is very environmentally conscious, as you can imagine, and I find myself wishing there were more of him out there like us. I wonder if this guy is still alive…
