Still some stilted plotting but still compelling.

So far, this is a very good one of these.

A masterpiece, inarguably.

Character, symbolism, tragedy, love, pain.

This book is searing and quite uncomfortable (for me) and supremely engaging.

It being labeled as “weird” in some way made me hesitate—I first attempted to read this in 2015 and am only now returning. I’m a more equipped reader now and am enjoying the journey through the inn so far.

Just so well-written at the sentence level it’s hard to be mad at this book zooming in so closely o to one character at the edges of all things. Feels like it unpacks book two of this series enough to prop it up (it wasn’t great) and set up some good stuff for the final book (Out of Oz). But it stands on its own as a great story—hard to see this ending poorly, but we’ll see tomorrow!

Folks seem to dislike this book. I find it delightful—funny, engaging, and full of memorable lines.

Maybe my favorite read of the year. Good lord. And it’s in second-person?!
