Dense as hell. But seriously it’s magical how short these stories are yet filled with so much history and information that it feels like a whole cohesive story. If there was the perfect short story writer, Borges would be up there.

This is changing a lot of how I viewed modernists. Ugh why can’t I just hate them???

Such a weird fucking book. I don’t even know what to think of it. I’m mainly grossed out.

An interesting view on using Plants to provide privacy. Not only that, this small book gives tips for general ways to utilize parts of the house many wouldn’t but incorporating plants. Obviously it’s from a magazine and some of the suggestions it says are more told as absolute truths, but nonetheless a very fun read.

Weird ass book about sex, babies, religion, aggression, anger, violence, boredom, and the lot.

Finding beauty from the perspective of a non-westerner is quite a stunning thing. The books reads less informative and more of a man writing about his awe of the Japanese and Chinese aesthetic of shadows and darkness but nevertheless I feel the passion he feels crawling out and latching onto me.

This book is an amazing introduction into feminist reading as a man. It relates to how the patriarchy affects men and how we should learn to change our ideals of masculinity in order to not only provide a safer, more freeing world for women, but also for ourselves. Masculinity and patriarchy have held back men from the ability to love and be free much as men and the the patriarchy have taken the same from women.

The dialogue is not good tbh. Very much “let me explain my character” type dialogue. Again thought, it’s the random gestures, the quiet moments captured, the mystery of the ordinary world that is brought to light that I keep reading.

I’ll always love the simplicity and beauty in how Murakami describes the world, but the characters need so much more dimension. This girl is so cool and quiet, this girl is so materialistic and personality-less. Hopefully this changes as the story progresses but if not I hope he can focus more on the city and the city life.
