At page 139 I finally understood the real meaning of the title “the courage to be disliked”, which might seem a bit of an attention grabbing title. According to the authors and Adler, all problems in life can be linked to interpersonal problems. The courage of accepting that someone will not like us sets us free, freeing us from the constant desire of recognition from others. Loving this book so much!

One can tell that, altough the translation simplified some wording for western readers, this book was made solely for national audience. At the beginning the style frightened me a bit.. all those names and characters thrown at the reader from page 1.. but I’m getting used to it now.. maybe more explanatory footnotes would have been useful for non Japanese readers?

The book was so nice and thought provoking until this page more or less.. where the fact that the writer mainly explores only the male character versus just a glimpse of the female character, becomes really heavy to cope with.

An example? The orgy sex fantasy of Rabih that he shares with his wife Kirsten which she does not approve of. The explanation for this is too male dominated and not explained on both sides
